Regular testing and maintenance of the alarm system are very important. Thorough documentation is vital so an annual certificate can be provided to the building owners and AHJ’s (authorities having jurisdiction), such as the insurance company.

The code provides specific guidance and requirements so the systems work properly. Central stations for burglar alarms are also covered under UL 827.

The central station facility should have walls and roof with a 1-hour fire rating. Provision is also made to protect from attack or vandalism. Two sources of power supply are required. There should be redundancy for the computer systems, with a backup system required.
