Diana has held a Vermont Property and Casualty License since 2017, has Advanced Accounting Certification from Champlain College, and holds degrees in Business Management and Technology and Mathematics from Vermont Technical College and Goddard College, respectively.

In the community, Diana has spoken on flood insurance topics for realtor, landlord, lender, and independent insurance producer audiences. She is a regular participant at the annual National Flood Conference. Diana also sits on the board of directors of the Vermont Association of Insurance Professionals (VTAIP) where she has chaired the Audit Committee for the past five years.

Key Coverage Considerations in Today’s Public & Private Market

This 2-hour course provides a general overview of the flood insurance marketplace that consumers in the United States currently face. The instructor presents a review of coverage offered through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and private flood insurance carriers. The session highlights differences in risk needs across all major flood zones, variations in the definition of what constitutes a flood, and coverages available throughout the marketplace. A case study is provided which places the course content in context through an examination of losses incurred during a major flood event experienced in Vermont in July 2023.

At the conclusion of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify differences in flood definitions in flood insurance policies.
  • Identify various risk exposures and different types of insureds who may need flood insurance.
  • Recognize flood zones and their characteristics.
  • Understand some mitigation options to reduce flood risk.

  • Identify risk exposure gaps that may exist in flood insurance policies.

Michael Farley leads the association’s legislative and regulatory affairs initiatives. He represents the industry before executive, legislative, and judicial branches on public policy and regulatory matters, and serves as in-house legal counsel. Prior to joining OII, Michael was Judicial and Legislative Affairs Counsel at the Supreme Court of Ohio. He also served as Assistant Director for Legislative affairs at the Ohio Department of Insurance.

Michael holds two law degrees from Capital University Law School: an LLM in Business Law and a Juris Doctor. He also received a Master of Public Administration from Ohio University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Akron. He is admitted to practice law in Ohio and the District of Columbia. Michael serves as an adjunct professor of law at Capital University Law School.
